Creativity Put To The Test

Creativity comes in many forms — it can be embodied in every task.  It’s a critical element that makes the At The Lake team tick. And, it’s something that is pervasive in the magazine’s office, with talents that help the team navigate the world of publishing, marketing and event planning.

When the group took its creativity “outside” for an afternoon at Lake Geneva’s Board & Brush Creative Studio, they stepped into a DIY workshop that perhaps was a bit foreign, but it soon became apparent how everyone’s talent would shine in a whole new way. Gone were laptops and phones and the rest of the familiar trappings that surround team members each day. Instead, instructors Lauri and Becky introduced tools best suited for woodworking professionals — raw wood, hammers, sand paper, stains, and power tools to name a few. And after a few short hours, each member of the group completed a beautifully personalized sign, each with a vintage vibe, and ready to be proudly displayed at home.

To achieve the heirloom feel, the sign making process started with distressing and sanding the wood, applying a mixture of stains, and then stenciling a design to achieve a one-of-a-kind look. Many created welcome signs decorated with their family’s name, others chose to create signs with holiday wishes or to acknowledge a hobby or that special vacation getaway.

Whether it’s a team building outing, birthday or bachelorette party, bridal shower, or a night out with friends, a Board & Brush workshop is the perfect way to unleash your creativity in a whole new way. The Lake Geneva studio, is just one of the more than 70 locations throughout the country and it’s been a popular addition to the downtown with workshops available during the week and on weekends.
