Frozen Moments

First we advertised it on Facebook, then we told you about it in our fall issue — a chance to have your photographs published in At The Lake. Our goal: We wanted to be wowed by the best winter landscape shots of our own backyard — the lakes area — when Mother Nature’s work is most dramatic, intensifying the beauty that surrounds us.

We received dozens of entries and we selected 15 spectacular photos that we’re presenting on the next six pages. For their efforts, the photographers who submitted winning entries will receive a copy of our “Geneva Lake: Stories From the Shore,” which documents the rich history of the lake from prehistoric discoveries to contemporary life.

Walworth County, and particularly the lakes area, is a favorite for professional and amateur photographers alike, especially on warm summer days or during autumn when fall foliage lights up the countryside. It’s the hardy souls, however, who on sub-zero days, hike the Shore Path, venture onto ice-covered lakes, rise before dawn or wait for the moments before sunset to get the right shot.

So, thank you to all the cold-weather photographers who shared their photos with us, and congratulations to the winners!
