Halloween at the Lake

It’s that time of year again – are you ready to don your best costumes and head out to enjoy all the tricks, treats, spooks and thrills of Halloween in the Lake Geneva area? We’ve rounded up a sampling of ways to celebrate the spookiest holiday of the year.

First things first: Trick or treating! Each local town and village has a specific trick-or-treat time when costumed kiddos are encouraged to go door-to-door. Here’s the list:

Trick or Treating

Saturday, Oct. 30

  • Town of Lyons – 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 31

  • City of Lake Geneva – Noon to 4 p.m.
  • Town of Geneva – 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Delavan and Darien– 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Walworth and Town of Walworth – 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Fontana – 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Williams Bay – 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • East Troy – 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Elkhorn – 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Halloween Activities

But don’t forget about other Halloween events happening in the area as well! Several local towns, businesses and organizations have fun Halloween activities planned that are open to the public.

Grand Geneva Resort & SpaHaunted Hayrides, Friday and Saturday nights from 6 p.m. to midnight, and Sunday, Oct. 31 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The rides are 20-25 minutes in length and utilize two tractor-pulled wagons running continuously all night that can accommodate 30-35 people per wagon. Rides from 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. are kid-friendly — all of the monsters are still in the woods, and not jumping on the wagons. All loud noises are removed for these rides as well. Arrive no later than 6 p.m. to be guaranteed a spot on a kid-friendly ride. Regular rides begin at approximately 7 p.m., once it is dark. Concessions are available, as well as a bonfire for all to enjoy before and after the ride. Tickets are cash only, sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. No reservations accepted.

East Troy BreweryHowl-oween Bash! 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Oct. 30. Family-friendly (and pup-friendly) Halloween Bash with pumpkin painting, dog costume contest, raffle prizes, candy, Halloween movies and face painting. Costume judging begins at 4 p.m.

Lake Lawn Resort, DelavanSpooktacular Family Halloween Lake Tour on the Lake Lawn Queen. Noon to 2 p.m on Oct. 31. Featuring Mr. Pickles who will delight and entertain children and adults alike with tunes, magic and fun. Featuring costume prizes, hot dogs and kid’s trick-or-treat goodies. Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children.

Town of LyonsHalloween bonfire in Riverview Park. Begins at 5 p.m. on Oct. 30, following trick-or-treating.

Town of DelavanHalloween Party for residents and non-residents. In the newly opened Waters Edge Event Venue in Community Park, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31.

But don’t feel like you have to let the kids have all the fun! Adults-only Halloween options abound as well:

Lake Lawn ResortBoos and Brews Cruise on the Lake Lawn Queen. 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 29 and 30. Adults only. Featuring DJ-provided music and a costume contest. Tickets are $35 per person.

Studio Winery & Geneva Lake DistillingHalloween Party. 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 30. Featuring music by Heads All Empty, a Grateful Dead tribute.

Maxwell MansionHalloween Party Boos & Booze. 7 p.m. to midnight, Oct. 31. Featuring music, signature cocktails and an annual costume contest, plus pre-ordered charcuterie prepared by Chef Abel Rosas available.
