It’s Not Too Late to Donate to the Big Bundle Up

As temperatures drop, warm clothing is a must and there’s a way you can help those in need to “bundle up” this winter. Now through Jan. 5, you can drop off new and gently used winter clothing, including coats, sweaters, hats, mittens, gloves and other cold-weather gear at the VISIT Lake Geneva Visitor Information Center to support the statewide Big Bundle Up campaign.

Once again, VISIT Lake Geneva is proud to coordinate the collection of items, which will be donated to the Walworth County Food & Diaper Bank, the all-volunteer led organization that provides food and supplies to those during a time of crisis. Their work, especially during the pandemic, has been critical. In an article in At The Lake earlier this year, Volunteer Managing Director Susan Hughes said, “Anyone can end up in a situation where they just need a little help.

That’s why the Big Bundle Up is so important to area communities. Since its inception in 2011, the annual statewide campaign, supported by local visitor bureaus, chambers of commerce and Travel Wisconsin Welcome Centers, has collected almost 185,000 items, with just over 21,000 collected in 2019. The Big Bundle Up was launched by Stephanie Klett, president and CEO of VISIT Lake Geneva during her tenure as secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Tourism.

“The outpouring of generosity for this program year after year is proof there is so much good in this world,” says Klett. “I’m asking our Lake Geneva area residents to join us in getting in the true spirit of the season by helping our neighbors in need.”
